Remembering Amelia Hobart

A personal space to share memories and photos as I move through my own grief journey, remembering my Bonus Daughter, Amelia Hobart #Forever19.
My name is Chell - I am Amelia’s Bonus Mom (or wicked Step-mother, depending on what age and stage of Amelia’s life you were part of). Amelia was not my first born, but she was my oldest daughter. She came into my life when she was ten years old and I was at a complete loss. I had no idea how to parent a ten year old - I was still trying to figure out how to raise my gaggle of 3, 4, and 6 year old girls.

Blessings of Being a Bonus Parent
Being a Bonus parent is not easy and Wow, did I mess up.
Over and Over and Over again.
Amelia loved to test me and I eventually realized she was looking for confirmation that I loved her. That I noticed her. That she mattered to me as much as the other girls mattered. And she does. Of course she was just as important to me as her sisters - it was up to ME to demonstrate that in a way that a thirteen year old girl could understand.
Forever Changed
Nothing happens overnight, but in time Amelia and I learned our love language. She grew into a mature, level-headed, young woman who learned how to advocate for herself, establish boundaries, and provide feedback without criticism.
Amelia taught ME how to be a better mother - to both her and to her sisters.
